Paramout published an article about me!

Hey everyone! I'm Britt, the proud owner of InkbyBritt Academy and Studio. I originally went to college as a business major, but life had other plans! I quickly found my passion—and income—in permanent makeup, and I’ve never looked back.

Fun fact: I’ve never had a boss (except for my high school job!). I’ve pretty much always been my own boss, and that’s one of the things I love about permanent makeup—the endless opportunities to create your own path.

Let me take you back to when I was 21. I was working as a manicurist when a fellow manicurist came in waving around a brochure about tattooed eyeliner. She said, “Let me tattoo your eyeliner!” Now, considering how she did nails, I wasn’t about to let her near my eyes! But she sparked my curiosity. If she could do it, I knew I could do it better. A month later, I enrolled in my first PMU course—and that was over 19 years ago! Even today, I sometimes can’t believe how much the permanent makeup industry has transformed my life. I bet that manicurist would be shocked to see I’ve built an entire business around it!

When I started, there weren’t many resources, especially compared to now. Those of us in the industry back then were true trailblazers. I’ve learned so much through trial and error, but that’s part of what makes my journey special.

I didn’t fully dive into expanding my academy until after I had my third kid. So to all the moms out there hustling and balancing it all while building your PMU—or any business—hats off to you! It’s not easy, but the road less traveled is often the most rewarding. Keep pushing forward!

I’ve spoken at a few conferences since opening my studio, trained many successful students, and had the privilege of creating beautiful art for my clients. I’m so proud of the work I do. One of the best things I hear from students is, “This is my biggest paycheck ever!” or even better, “This is my first paycheck ever!”

I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything!

XO,

Britt
