How to Prepare for Your Permanent Makeup Appointment

How to Prepare for Your Permanent Makeup Appointment

A little preparation goes a long way in ensuring the best possible results from your permanent makeup procedure. Here’s everything you need to do before your appointment:

General Preparation

  • Avoid alcohol, coffee, and caffeine before your appointment — these can thin the blood and affect results.
  • Avoid blood thinners such as fish oil, ibuprofen, and Tylenol beforehand.
  • Stop using anti-aging products like Retin-A, Glycolic Acid, Alpha-Hydroxy Acids, or exfoliants at least 2 weeks prior.
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least 2 weeks before your appointment.
  • Do not have Botox or fillers within 2 weeks of your appointment.

Brow Preparation

  • Come with your brows in their natural state — don’t fill them in so we can see your natural hair growth pattern.
  • If you wax or thread, do so at least 3 days before your appointment.

Lip Blush Preparation

  • Exfoliate your lips the day of your procedure and keep them well hydrated.
  • If you are prone to cold sores, consult your doctor about starting an antiviral before your appointment.

Eyeliner Preparation

  • Do not wear contact lenses on the day of your eyeliner procedure.
  • Avoid lash serums and lash extensions for 2 weeks prior.

Day of Your Appointment

  • Come with a clean face — no heavy makeup in the treatment area.
  • Eat a good meal beforehand so your blood sugar is stable.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and plan to relax — your appointment is 1–2 hours.
