Booking your first permanent makeup appointment is exciting — but it’s totally normal to feel a little nervous too! Knowing exactly what to expect can make all the difference. Here’s a friendly, step-by-step walkthrough of what your appointment at Ink by Britt looks like from start to finish.
Step 1: Consultation
Every appointment begins with a thorough consultation. We’ll talk about your goals, your lifestyle, and what you’re hoping to achieve. This is your chance to ask any questions and share any concerns — we love this part!
Step 2: Design & Color Selection
Next, we’ll design your look. For brows, this means professional mapping to find the most flattering shape for your face. For lips, we’ll outline the shape and select a color that complements your skin tone. For eyeliner, we’ll discuss thickness and style.
Everything is drawn on and approved by you before we begin. You are in complete control of your results.
Step 3: Numbing
A topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area and left on for about 20–30 minutes. This ensures you’re as comfortable as possible throughout the procedure.
Step 4: The Procedure
Once you’re numb and your design is approved, the procedure begins! Depending on the service, this typically takes 1–2 hours. Most clients are surprised by how comfortable and relaxing it is — many even doze off!
Step 5: Aftercare Instructions
When we’re done, we’ll walk you through your aftercare instructions in detail and send you home with everything you need. Following aftercare properly is key to getting the best healed results.

Step 6: The Healing Process
Over the next 2–4 weeks, your permanent makeup will go through a healing process. Colors may appear darker at first, then lighten and soften as the skin heals. This is completely normal! Your final result is visible at around 4–6 weeks.
Step 7: Your 6-Week Touchup
Most clients come back for a 6-week touchup to perfect the results. This is where we fine-tune color, fill in any areas that may have healed lighter, and make any small adjustments. Think of it as the finishing touch!
